On February 10, the Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa co-hosted the 2026 “Happy Chinese New Year” celebrations and the “Spring Begins Anew · Galloping Miles Ahead” Chinese New Year Culture Exhibition. Head of the Mission of China Amb. Jiang Feng, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Mr. Claver Gatete, Chief of Staff of OES of UNECA Mr. Aboubakri Diaw, representatives from the African Union Commission and UN agencies, diplomats from various countries, and young representatives from China and Africa, totaling over 200 people, attended the celebrations.

Ambassador Jiang said that, as a flagship event of the “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges”, the celebration is not just a cultural feast, but also an exchange of hearts and a resonance of emotions. The 600 events for people-to-people exchanges scheduled for 2026 will further consolidate the amicable ties between the Chinese and African peoples and lay solid public support for an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.

Representatives from the African side enthusiastically participated in the displays and immersive experience of Chinese intangible cultural heritage. They spoke highly of the celebration, saying that it reflects China and Africa’s strong commitment to promoting exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations. The celebration, they said, has injected new vitality into the advancement of China-Africa friendship and South-South cooperation.
