As the Year of the Horse approaches, on 30 January, Ambassador Wu Peng visited the Chinese community in Johannesburg, including the Oriental City, China Shopping Center, Time Square in the Dragon City, and the African Chinese Language Foundation School.

During the visit, Ambassador Wu learned in detail about the work, daily life and safety conditions of the Chinese community. He extended festive greetings and presented gift packages. Ambassador Wu stressed that General Secretary Xi Jinping cares deeply about overseas Chinese compatriots. He noted that through their hard work in South Africa, they have built a better life for themselves while also contributing to China-South Africa friendship and China’s development.

Ambassador Wu expressed hope that the Chinese community would continue to uphold fine traditions, foster a positive image as ‘overseas Chinese in the new era,’ enhance safety awareness and follow lawful and compliant business practices, play an active role in advancing exchanges, cooperation and friendship between the two countries, and jointly write a new chapter in China-South Africa friendship and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The Chinese Embassy and Consulates in South Africa will continue to practise “diplomacy for the people”, improve services for the Chinese community, and safeguard their safety and legitimate rights and interests.

Members of the Chinese community expressed gratitude for the government’s care. They pledged to strengthen safety awareness and lawful business practices, actively contribute to local communities, and make new contributions to China-South Africa friendship, national reunification, and the building of a strong China.
